#119

75

Vivari Hotel and Spa by Mantis

4.6(497)✓ Google-verified

Most visits are quiet, pampering, and visually lovely. The spa treatments impress, meals land well, and staff warmth often leaves guests planning their return. Yet rough edges surface: some rooms run cold in winter with slow fixes, a few staff members turn dismissive when issues arise, and basic operational hiccups (missing amenities, closed facilities without notice, equipment breakdowns) can wreck a special occasion. When things go right, guests feel genuinely cared for. When they don't, the 5-star promise rings hollow. The hot stone massage and facials draw praise. Reception typically handles bookings smoothly. Food from the farm-to-table approach gets regular compliments. But guests flagged heating outages, spa closures announced only at check-in, rude front-desk staff, and rooms with odours or non-working fixtures. One recurring frustration: staff disappear after treatments or aren't on hand to guide next steps.

Camelot Spa at SEVEN Villa Hotel & Spa

#127

74

Camelot Spa at SEVEN Villa Hotel & Spa

4.4(120)✓ Google-verified

When the right therapist treats you, Camelot delivers genuine relaxation and relief. Reviewers with positive experiences highlight skilled hands (especially Busi and Lungile), thoughtful welcome rituals, warm rooms, and real pain management results. The downside is stark inconsistency: some sessions feel rushed, therapists in training, heat bags that smell unpleasant, and one reviewer encountered a hard sales pitch mid-massage followed by a curt dismissal. At premium prices, customers expect consistency, and several felt disappointed when they did not get it. Stronger feedback came from those celebrating milestones or returning during quieter times. The venue itself impresses, the tea and snacks set a good tone, and when therapists are experienced, guests leave glowing. But quality shifts based on who books your slot, and complaints about therapist training, hygiene oversights, and how conflict is handled suggest gaps in supervision.

Five-star visits highlight therapists like Venus, Nondumiso, Jade, and Sebenzile who deliver attentive, skilled massages and create memorable group experiences. Yet the reviews split sharply: one-star complaints centre on nail work chipping within days with refused refunds, waits exceeding an hour without updates, incomplete facials with makeup residue left behind, and missed follow-up after complaints. Staffing inconsistency runs through both halves. Guests praise individual therapists for warmth and technique, but others report being upsold add-on products mid-treatment or waiting 15 minutes for a masseuse to arrive. Crowding during parties and package bookings creates noise that breaks the spa atmosphere reviewers expect. Most guests praise the spa treatments, welcoming staff, and tranquil setting, describing visits as deeply relaxing and the space as impeccably designed. Rooms are luxurious with fine furnishings. However, recent booking and meal service failures-including missed confirmations, hour-long delays, and incomplete dishes-have overshadowed otherwise exceptional hospitality. The disconnect between front-of-house warmth and back-office planning creates frustration, particularly for milestone celebrations. Staff communicate sympathetically when problems arise but cannot prevent the underlying logistical lapses. When operations run smoothly, guests leave refreshed and eager to return.

Casuarina Wellness Centre

This spa deteriorated sharply around October last year, when repeated closures for renovation and unrelated reasons left customers stranded with booked appointments and no notice. Phone calls went unanswered for days, vouchers expired unused, and security guards turned away paying customers at the door. Two recent five-star reviews from months before the closures mention attentive staff and a relaxing setting, but the overwhelming pattern since then is operational chaos: deals sold on third-party sites while the business was shut, bookings confirmed then cancelled by text, and management that made no effort to communicate changes to customers. The few positive experiences predate a period of evident dysfunction. Staff member Shaheeda (manager) received both praise for attentiveness and criticism for cancelling bookings unprofessionally. Earlier complaints cited noisy staff during treatments, inexperienced massage techniques, and dirty facilities. Without a clear operational timeline from the business itself, it is unclear whether the spa has since reopened or resolved these issues.
